Final Exam Prep -What to know

Your final exam will be in the form of a free form interview (radio or TV). This can be done on Dec. 6 within small group settings, or one on one (during class time). Individual freeform reviews can also be scheduled between Dec. 7-12. This will be an oral exam review and should take you no more than 45 minutes to complete. You may select any new release film in theatres or new and original to Netflix or Amazon. You must let me know the film you plan to review before Monday, December 3. You should also let me know if you plan to complete your final during class time, or if you’d rather set up an individual time for the radio/TV interview. Post your film selection below and let me know if you want to complete your freeform review during Dec. 6 class. Since this will be a comprehensive-focused review, the following materials (from the semester) will be fair game. This grade will count as “four review grades.”

  1. Be able to offer brief description of the story of the film (with no spoilers).large_mv5bmtq5nzy2nzg4of5bml5banbnxkftztgwmdewmzi0nte_-_v1__sx1237_sy649_
  2. Identify the driving story question.
  3. Identify the inciting incident.
  4. Identify the protagonist(s) and the forces of antagonism (and/or the conflicts).
  5. Understand the different character conflicts and which best depicts your selected film.
  6. Identify story arc (Freytag Formula).
  7. Identify which Blake Snyder formula best identifies the film (and be able to explain why).
  8. Identify character arcs, character development and characterization.
  9. Identify which literary hero best describes your main character and why.
  10. What is the universal life lesson represented in the film?
  11. Identify the film genre that best describes the film. If it is a remake, biopic or adaptation, you should acknowledge that as well.
  12. Examine strengths and weaknesses.
  13. Examine the technical aspects of the film (acting, cinematography, sound design, music, writing, visual effects,  color theory, etc.).
  14. Who are the key players (actors, directors, composers, etc.)?
  15. If asked to provide reasons why this is or isn’t appropriate for a certain audience (kids, senior citizens, sports magazine, international crowds, etc.), you should be able to explain why or why not.
  16. Be able to offer any trivia or additional background on film or talent for bonus points.
